12 SKIN DISEASES IN MEN YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL (PART I)

Skin is important because it is in direct contact with agents such as chemicals, infections, cuts, scrapes, and sunlight to protect the body. Men often exercise and sweat more, so the skin is even more burdened. Common dermatological conditions in men are the way the skin responds to these pressures.

Men can always have healthy skin if they take care of and protect the skin. Dr. Monica Carezani-Gavin, the medical director of Azani Medical Spa in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA, has told you some ways to combat common dermatological problems in men to have brighter skin.

1. Acne

Acne never stops appearing even after you have reached puberty. In adolescence, hormones are a major cause of acne but other factors such as humidity, stress, excessive sweating or steroid use are also involved.

Acne is hard to cure with just good personal hygiene and a healthy diet, and even washing your face too much can make acne worse. You should go to the doctor to get rid of acne and advise on the most appropriate way to take care of your skin.

However, if you think you don’t need to see a doctor, you can buy a 5% benzoyl-peroxide acne cleanser to try. This is a prescription-free cleanser that can be purchased at drug stores.

2. Sunburned skin

This skin lesion appears immediately after exposure to ultraviolet radiation. This is a common dermatological condition in men but quite easy to prevent. Take precautions like daily sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

When your skin is sunburned, you need to treat it early with vitamin E. Apply a vitamin E tablet to the sunburned area to reduce skin discomfort.

3. Razor burns

Razor burns are a burning irritation after shaving. You may have a blush or, more importantly, a rash with blisters and pimples that last for several days. However, you can prevent common dermatological problems in men in a number of ways:

  • Apply shaving gel before shaving
  • Wash your face with warm water before shaving
  • Replace or clean the razor often
  • Move the blade to avoid skin damage
  • If you have a scalding burn, apply aloe cortisone cream or a gentle facial cleanser with vitamin E to soothe and reduce redness. The lotion will work better than a regular simple moisturizer.

4. Blushing

Rosacea is not life-threatening but will make you feel less confident in your skin. To treat this common male dermatosis, you need to see a doctor and take prescription drugs and self-care at home.

First, identify the cause of illness such as excessive exposure to the sun or certain foods. Depending on the cause, your doctor will advise you on remedies such as applying sunscreen, avoiding rubbing or touching your face too much and not using alcohol products on your skin.

5. Eczema

Eczema is usually mild and does not cause serious effects but can sometimes get worse. Whether you have severe or mild eczema, you should not scratch because scratching will cause skin infection, redness, cracking, rusting, peeling, etc. Stress or a dry climate can contribute to eczema in sensitive people.

There are many ways to treat eczemas such as topical creams (corticosteroids), massage, acupuncture, acupressure, vitamin D, light therapy and antihistamines.

6. Foot fungus

Anyone who regularly practices the gym is at risk for foot fungus because it is a common dermatological condition in men who are contagious in public areas such as shared bathrooms, changing rooms and fitness centers. Fungal infections start between the toes but can spread to the toenails and to the sides of the feet.

The good news is that when infected with this fungus, patients respond well to over-the-counter treatments such as Lotrimin-AF and Lamisil-AT. A Lamisil tube is more expensive than most anti-fungal creams and powders, but it works faster. You also need to wash and dry your feet twice a day to prevent the fungus from coming back. And if the weather allows, let your feet breathe by wearing slippers and no socks.

If your foot fungus is too serious, you may need prescription medication. See your doctor at clinics if home remedies do not help you get better after a week.
